10 - Sloped Ceiling Housing and Trim Information.

Sloped Ceiling (SC) Housings and Trims are available for most sloped ceiling applications for ceiling pitches up to 30 degrees.  Sloped ceiling housings and trims are available in 4" and 6" diameter only.  6" diameter PAR sloped ceiling housings are cut at an angle across the opening.  These housings are for use with PAR bulbs.

All 4" diameter sloped ceiling housings and 6" diameter MR16 sloped ceiling housings are not modified in any way from the standard MR16 housings.  Therefore, the standard "New Construction" or "Remodel" housings are used when any 4" housings or 6" MR16 housings are to be used in a sloped ceiling application.

4" MR16 SC New Construction Housing with Adjustable Trim

4" MR16 SC Remodel Housing with Adjustable Trim

The reason for this is that because of the sloped ceiling application the bulb must ultimately point toward the ground after installation and this requires an adjustable trim with the bulb attach to the trim.  In the 6" line voltage housings because of the size of the bulb it must attach to the housing and can not be attached to the trim which requires the housing to be pointed in the correct direction - toward the ground.  For any application of both 4" and 6" low voltage (12V) sloped ceiling housings, special adjustable trims must be used to allow the light to shine directly downward.

Insulated (IC) and Double Wall (DW) Sloped Ceiling (SC) Housings can be in contact with insulation, ducts, or structure in the installation space.  These housings also have a built in thermal switch that guards against improper lamping and installation.  Double wall housings offer even more fire protection.  These housings require more space be available for installation than do non-insulated or universal housings.

Check your local building codes to determine if insulated housings are required or under what conditions insulated housings are required.
